Que Pasa ALAC?              Summer 2008
Gracias to Board Members & Members of ALAC! Find a progress report that follows:
Felicidades to our Founding Board Members. The ALAC Board of Directors is composed of leaders in our community who have volunteered their time and service for the preservation, promotion and education of Latin@ Arts & Culture.  Each board member has demonstrated an enormous amount of time to lead, plan and execute programming for ALAC ; while leading their respective organizations too. Our Board believes that our work will result in a Latin@ Cultural Center for our community.

The Latino Caucus, awards ALAC on April 4, 2008, another historical moment: On April 4, 2008, The Latino Caucus, Arizona State Legislature recognizes and awards a certificate to ALAC for dedicated leadership of Latin@ Arts & Culture on the floor of the Arizona House of Representatives. A historical moment...it was the first time that a Latino Arts & Culture organization has been recognized in the House of Representatives in the State of Arizona.

Community Partnership Forums & Receptions: Since the beginning, ALAC's goal was to be inclusive of all artists, our first community gathering was on June 2007.  We continued to hold community forums throughout the year to identify new members and to sustain our initiative to identify new community partnerships.

ALAC Board of Directors  & Incorporation: We elected a board of directors that represents the 12 major latin@ arts organizations in the city.  ALAC incorporated in Phoenix, Arizona in January 2008.

A Business Plan: May 2008 the board developed a Business Plan for ALAC and submitted to the City of Phoenix as part of the negotiations to have ALAC considered for a potential site to establish an office and to envision the Latino Cultural Center. A productive dialogue and negotiations with the City of Phoenix is in-progress today.

A Membership Plan:  We launched a membership campaign and recruited paid members which includes all board members.  Then revised our Membership Plan to create benefits and opportunities for the membership;  and specifically create new levels of community investment levels.

Strategic Planning Retreat June 7th:  Planned & executed a highly successful Strategic Planning Retreat for board members with three goals; Team Building, Action Planning & Personal Leadership Commitment.  All board members participated and it was facilitated by board member, Melanie Ohm and hosted by board member, Donna Valdes.

2008-2009 Community Partnership Forums & Receptions: To sustain our goal of community outreach we plan to continue identifying new partnerships and identifying new members to join ALAC's mission and vision.  The new venues will be scheduled for October, November & beginning January 2009.

City of Phoenix Partnership:  To sustain a positive dialogue with the City, we are planning to formalize a collaboration that may result in a facility to establish an ALAC Office and begin the development of a Latino Cultural Center for the community.

Events & Programming & ALAC Artists:
ALAC Artists donated art to generate operating funds & Board
members & Membership  participated , donated & coordinated
numerous  art exhibitions & events within the community.
